I just want to make one further point of my experiences
at Shadowbrook and with Fr. Creeden. He was instrumental in increasing
within me a greater intimacy with the Lord as merciful and loving.
He was an example of that himself. At one point he challenged
me and said, "I've encouraged you not to insist on dealing with
the past but to pray more to and in the Lord about mercy and love."
Years later I was a chaplain in a hospital in Bridgeport for thirteen
years and my approach was one of mercy and love with patients
and penitents. He encouraged me to be that way with others.
I believe that my life, the ups and the downs,
were distinctly in the hands of God. And many thanks are due to
the people he has given me for companions and friends. Yes, it
is clear that God was there the whole time, and never was I abandoned
by being left on my own. It says a lot about the Jesuit Society,
and it says a lot about God's compassionate care, and it says
a lot about companionship and the blessing that it is.
