About 1931, first contact with the Jesuits I think I was very lucky even to hear about the Jesuits while I was at St Michael's. I feel myself very fortunate to have met Fr. Bernard Hubbard, S.J. (the Glacier Priest), my first contact with the Jesuits. I sort of followed him around after that and heard two or three of his lectures. I got an excellent vocation and I have had a very happy life. Political turmoil affects Baghdad College In Baghdad, King Ghazi's son, Faisal, was only a boy when he took over, so his uncle was the regent. He was king until he was about twenty, when he and the whole royal family were killed by a group of army officers. The best years for Baghdad College were the early, quiet years. Grateful to the Society, teachers, and parents I assure you that while in Baghdad, I found that I had no desire to be anything else but a Christian, close to Christ. You appreciate what the Society has done for us. You appreciate what the Sisters in grade school and high school did to give us our religious background. That is where it comes from. And our parents, for putting up with their sons going away to a place that they could not even spell! Due to death or sickness some of these selected readings have been read by someone other than the author. This page contains one such replacement.
